City Week

Somerville Secondary College’s Year 9 ‘City Week’ program is aimed to remove students from the typical classroom situation and immerse them in a challenging real world environment that engages them with Melbourne’s contemporary issues. The 4 day multi discipline program, allows students to experience the bigger picture outside school. The experience encourages students to develop their independence and organisational skills, as they make their way around the city. With each attraction the students visit, they are required to complete work tasks and take in information, ultimately resulting in them gaining a deeper understanding of the history, culture and the community of Melbourne.

The Year 9 ‘City Week’ program consists of the following activities;

• Eureka Tower Skye Deck Experience.
• National Gallery of Victoria
• Old Melbourne Gaol
• Queen Victorian Markets
• Royal Melbourne Zoo

• Victorian College of the Arts Tour
• ‘Make a Film at ACMI’ Australian Centre for Moving Image
