At Year 8, students, independently and collaboratively, plan, improvise, refine, make and present arts works that represent and communicate ideas and purpose. They experiment with, select and use appropriate skills, techniques, equipment and technologies across a range of dramatic art forms and styles. Students explore the techniques of sketch comedy, duologue and monologue scripts, improvisation and performance through music; all while creating performance for stage and film.
Students are also required to maintain a drama journal of the creating and making process while also reflecting on their performance decisions and performance skills. Somerville Secondary College has also moved into the future and the junior Drama students are completing their Drama journals via the school Drama Blog. The Drama blog is designed for students to access both at home and at school. Students reflect on what they have learnt in class, what they want to improve on and how they thought their lesson went.
