Junior School

Year 7

Writing imaginative narratives and required formats for Science and Humanities form the basis of Term 1. Once teachers have come to know their classes well, a fiction text is chosen as a class novel in Term 2. Term 3 moves students further into studying narrative through poetry and visual texts of all kinds. Students spend Term 4 speaking and writing about issues that matter to them. Students and teachers take part in regular Literacy workshops which focus on reading and writing skills in small groups.

Year 8

Year 8 English is integrated with Humanities through Medieval studies in Semester 1 and Asian studies in Semester 2. Students learn to write and speak more formally in presenting to their peers. Class novels and an emphasis on internet site reading skills are the focus for reading.
