The Somerville Secondary College Wellbeing Model integrates the areas of Student Management, Welfare and Pastoral Care. It coordinates these areas and acknowledges the importance of their overlap in developing a comprehensive program that builds an educational environment that nurtures students’ wellbeing. This model encourages students to be active participants in decision making regarding their management, it supports them to assume responsibility for their own behaviour and to communicate and work well with others by acknowledging that effective learning occurs more freely when we understand ourselves better, look after ourselves and manage our behaviour. Along with the Student Support Framework of “Prevention, Early Intervention, Intervention and Restoring Wellbeing, this model forms the basis of planning for programs that build on to the wellbeing of our students.
