Do you love to read? Just curl up with a favourite book on a rainy day and read for enjoyment? Do you love to read novels that make you think about yourself and the world in a different way? And do you feel that you never get to talk about your most loved fictional worlds often enough? Or maybe you love to write – to use your imagination to create new worlds or expresses your most important thoughts?
If so, then this course is designed for you! In this unit, you will read. You will write. And you will be in charge of what you read and write, both individually and also in small book clubs. You will be exposed to a range of reading challenges on BookTube or Bookstagram, and then participate in one that either suits your current reading habits or would be a great challenge. Students will also participate in literature circles and book clubs, to discuss their reading.
For writing, students will have a choice of writing competitions to engage in, from a range of other organisations, and may include slam poetry, horror story writing, script writing, or flash fiction. This class will include an excursion to the Melbourne Writer’s Festival if it runs in Semester 2.
