COURSE DESCRIPTION
Some societies peacefully evolve their political and social systems over time, while others are often engaged in much more violent and disruptive forced revolutions. This subject aims to study some of the world’s most influential revolutions, in order to identify the conditions and ideologies which caused the revolution, study the major events of the revolution, and then investigate both the short term and long term impacts of the movement. In this course, students will study the American and French Revolutions of the 17th century, as well as the more modern revolutions in Russia, China, and Iran. Students will also be able to choose a recent military coup to investigate and report on themselves, such as the coups in Fiji, Thailand, Myanmar, Yeman, Central African Republic, Egypt and Zimbabwe.
This unit is a perfect choice for any student who has a particular interest in world history, and it directly links to the VCE History subject of Revolutions.
